Henry Ford's legendary Model T commenced production in October 1908 and by 1910 Ford had produced nearly 12,000 units. This van was built at the Ford factory in Trafford Park, Manchester, which by 1914 had become Europe's largest car producer. By this time it took just over an hour and a half to assemble one, thanks to the introduction of moving assembly lines in 1913. The rate of production was not exceeded until the Volkswagen Beetle 58 years later!
The three pedals had completely different functions to today's clutch, brake and accelerator. The Model T had a brake pedal on the right, a reverse pedal in the middle to make it go backwards, and a pedal on the left to shift the gears from low to high speed.
