History

The Leyland Tiger Cub was launched in 1952. It was named when a lighter-weight chassis was introduced in 1952 as a modification to the older Leyland Royal Tiger which was regarded by certain influential customers as overweight, over-specified and too expensive. The younger Tiger Cub went on to define a golden age of British coach trip holidays.

The naming of this coach followed a tradition going back to the 1920's when Leyland was at the forefront of bus and truck design and began to manufacture the 'Leyland Zoo' - Vehicles with animal names. This began with models such as the 'Lion', 'Lioness', 'Llama', 'Leveret' and many continued to be manufactured into the 1980s.
